The Center of Music and Art is pleased to present our Summer 2008 schedule.

Monday:
Girls Only Voice Class — 6:30 to 7:15pm Cost $90 per 10 weeks Girls ages 6-8 June 3 – Aug. 5
These classes will develop singing skills, learning songs with harmony parts and developing proper breathing technique. A great opportunity for beginning in a fun girls’ only setting.

Tuesday:
Music for Toddler and Parent — 11:30-12:00 pm Ages: 18 months to 3 years
June 3 through August 5, 2008
Cost: $90.00 for summer semester plus supplies

Develop your child’s creative responses to music while increasing their sense of group awareness in this fun and energetic group class.
Carolyn Glaub will guide students as they explore singing and movement in a creative setting among their peers. A short program for family & friends will be presented at semester’s end.

4’s and 5’s for Art & Music — 4:30 to 5:30pm Cost $40 per month Ongoing class
Bring your four and five-year-olds for an afternoon of excitement and learning. From 4:30 to 5:00, Carolyn Glaub will teach your child the fundamentals of music through singing and musical instruments. From 5:00 to 5:30, your children will participate in a fun art project under the guidance of art instructor Diana Holcombe. It’s a great way to help your child start learning about music and art.

Try it all Tuesdays — 11:00am to 12:30pm Cost $15 per week per child Ages 6-10 Starts June 2nd
Bring your six to ten-year-olds to CMA on Tuesday mornings from 11:00am to 12:30pm this summer for a fun mix of music and art. Students will work with both music and art teachers each time they come. Classes will feature a different genre each week including voice, art, guitar, music, fiddling, and a host of other activities. Classes are $15 per week per child.

Colored Pencils for Adults — 5:30 to 6:15pm Cost $45 per month Starts June 2nd
Come learn how to use artists’ colored pencils in a group class for beginners to advanced students. Diana Holcombe will teach a range of techniques to make well-blended, lifelike drawings from landscapes to portraits. Enjoy learning something new or refining your artistic skills in a relaxed group atmosphere.

Wednesday:
Homeschool Art Workshop – 10:30am to 12:00 pm Cost: $8.50 per week every other week Ages 5-12
Your child will enjoy learning about art and artists and get the chance to create their own masterpieces in a variety of mediums and techniques in a fun group setting. Each workshop will explore a different theme and often feature a piece of corresponding children’s literature to spark the imagination. Sign up today!

Teen Expressions — 5:00 to 5:45pm Cost $35 per month Ages 13-18 Ongoing class, start anytime
Get the drawing skills you need to express your creative self! Students will learn perspective, composition, line formation, shading techniques and proportion to draw both realistic subjects and abstract designs. The class, taught by Diana Holcombe, incorporates both group and individual projects to serve each student’s artistic interests. Materials used include pencil, ink, charcoal, paint, and pastel.

Manga Mania — 5:45 to 6:30pm Cost $35 per month Ages 13-18 Ongoing class, start anytime
Can’t get enough of your favorite manga characters? Learn all about drawing in the classic Japanese “manga” style. Students will incorporate their favorite characters into finished drawings, and learn to develop their own characters and storylines. The class, taught by Stephanie King, also covers the process of creating and publishing manga-style “graphic novels “ (full-length comic books).

Summer Strummin’ Group Guitar Class — 11:00 to 11:45am Ages 10-13
Cost $90 for 10 week course plus book June 4—Aug. 5

If you would like to learn to play the guitar, join us this summer for a 10 week course for beginners. Mike Underwood will teach students how to play chords, basic melodies and how to read notes. Just sign up, bring your guitar and enjoy learning a new skill in a fun group setting.
Students must purchase a music book at the beginning of the course.

Creative Corner of Imagination for Parent & Child — 5:30 to 6:15pm Ages 2½ to 4
June 4 through August 6, 2008
Cost $90 for summer semester plus supplies

This is a special class for parent & child to experience music, art & creativity together. Carolyn Glaub will teach students with rhythm instruments, movement, singing, painting and clay. Imagination is the only requirement for this fun class! A short program for family & friends will be presented at semester’s end.

Thursday:
Adult Oil Painting – 11:00am to 12:30pm Cost: $65.00 per month
If you think you’re too old to try something new, give yourself a chance and come join us! Tap into your creative potential and try something that you’ve always wanted to—no experience necessary. This class is taught by Diana Holcombe and is open to all artists, beginners or advanced and will include instruction in a wide range of painting styles & techniques. Students will work at their own pace, creating paintings of their own choosing as well as participate in occasional whole-group paintings. Come find the “artist” in you!

Little Picassos – 5:00-5:45 pm Ages: 5-7 years Cost: $35.00 per month
Kids are born artists! Your child can tap into that natural creativity with age-appropriate art experiences that are both fun and educational. This class focuses on the process of art creation in a positive, child-centered atmosphere. Students will explore a wide variety of art methods and materials, including drawing, painting, sculpting, weaving, collage and more!

Artful Adventures – 6:00-6:45 pm Ages: 8-12 yrs. Cost: $35.00 per month
This is an intermediate class taking children beyond the basics in their art experience. Students will develop skill in various art techniques, use new and exciting art materials, learn about famous artists, and plan many of their own projects. The class includes drawing, painting, and sculpting.

Students will act, do technical and stage work for two productions. Singing, dancing, and dramatic skills will be taught. Please note that participation in the Friday performance is mandatory for being a part of this summer camp experience. Students will need to bring a bag lunch each day of the camp.

Private & Semi-Private lessons are always available in both music & art.

*Take art lessons in many areas including: drawing, painting (oils, watercolor, acrylic), colored pencil, clay sculpture, clay jewelry, cartooning, origami and much more, just ask.

*Music lessons are also available including: acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass, banjo, drums, band instruments, piano, organ, gospel improvisation, keyboard, voice, ear training and drama.

Private Lessons = $15.00 per half hour
Semi-Private Lessons(2 students) =$10.00 per student per half hour

Group classes can also be formed according to your interests and schedule. Groups of 6 or more students can form their own class in music & art—special group rates apply; call the CMA for details.
